How a relocation runs
- The brief. Dates, size, furnished or not, parking, security, pets, who signs and who pays. Usually one call with the principal's office.
- The shortlist. Residences from the portfolio first, then the wider market, shown privately and, if needed, by video for a principal abroad.
- The lease. Diplomatic or corporate clause, early termination, renewal option, inventory and deposit terms negotiated and explained to both sides.
- Move-in. Utilities, building registration, keys, parking and the signed furniture inventory, handled on the day.
- The tenancy. Robert stays on the lease: repairs, renewals, and the exit when the posting ends.
Relocation questions
Can an embassy lease a residence in Washington, DC?
Yes. Embassies and missions lease ambassadorial residences and staff housing throughout Kalorama, Georgetown, the West End and The Wharf. The lease is usually signed by the mission, includes a diplomatic clause allowing early termination on reassignment, and is coordinated with the mission's administrative office and, for parking signage and security, with the State Department.
What is a diplomatic clause?
A lease provision that lets a diplomat or mission end the lease early, typically with sixty days' notice and a defined fee, if the tenant is reassigned or recalled. Robert negotiates its exact terms so both the owner and the mission know what happens on a transfer.
Do you work with corporate relocation and family offices?
Yes. Companies, family offices and agents often engage Robert on behalf of the person who will live in the residence, with the company as guarantor or signatory. Furnished, turnkey residences with a fixed start date are the most common request.
How quickly can a furnished residence be ready?
When a residence in the portfolio is available, a furnished home can be ready within days: inventory signed, utilities running, building registration complete. Robert handles the move-in day so the tenant arrives to a working home.
Is discretion assured?
Showings are private and by appointment. Robert does not disclose the names of clients, past or present; references are given by role only and with permission.
Can you help an athlete on a one-season contract?
Yes. Furnished residences on twelve-month terms with a defined early-exit are the usual structure, close to the team's facilities and with parking.
